Whilst in Western Australia, we have created a few words that you may like, or dislike. The first is quite a simple one, combing the words Map and Atlas. The result is the “word,” Maplas. This name word was created by Isabel as a substitute name for Road Atlas. It was named about Exmouth, and has stuck ever since.
The next one is Elliot’s and Mum’s creation, a name for the Port Lincoln and 28 Parrots. It started coming into Kalbarri, when Mum thought she saw lots of the Port Lincoln Parrots, although Dad said they were Sprite Bottles. Elliot started calling them Sprite Bottles, and the name has not changed.
As for the signs, WA DEC seems to be very caring for their visitors. In almost every DEC-run park, you have at least one “Risk Area” sign (detailing the perceived risks involved). Here is a list
- Coast
- Water
- River
- Trail
- 1080 Poison
- Limestone
- Footbridge
- Shallow Water
- Swing
- Rock
- Cliff
- Gorge
- Lookout
- Dingo
- Hypothermia
- Tide
- Disease (Dieback Fungi)
They are the ones that I can remember, but I am sure there are at least twice as many.
Louis.
