How to lose 1kg honey in a day

IMG_3057 I didn’t know it when I bought it but WA has pretty much a blanket ban on anything living entering from NT (and I presume SA as well). That is extended to include honey as well. From what we could read they are quite militant about it, and our 20 minute wait at the border confirmed it. The box of honey containers, both empty and full also confirmed that “none shall pass”

IMG_2908 So this morning I set about consuming 1kg of honey, now satisfied that my ploy of not taking the seal off my brand new pot was not going to fly. Started out with the recipe book, although given our rather limited pantry, there really wasn’t much choice about what we could make.

I started with my remaining vegies. Four onions, four carrots, some broccoli and five potatoes went in with some herbs, and hang it all, some honey. Can’t hurt. Call it Asian style.

Then onto the cakes. Had butter, SR flour and an egg, a little IMG_3074milk so all good. Start out with the flour and mix in as much honey as you dare. Then add a little more just for the hell of it. Stir in the rest.  Now, how to cook it. Ok, try a billy lid. Worth a try. Grease it with a little oil, then pile two on top of each other in the biggest billy, a bit of water in the bottom, lid on then on the stove. Wait 45 minutes and TADA! Did I ever mention that sometimes I amaze even myself.

Ok, buoyed by that, why not try some biscuits? IMG_3076 Well, of sorts. Equal-ish parts SR and plain flour, some butter, and twice as much honey as you dare this time. Mix to a stiff batter. Heat the frypan, flour it then cook on each side a small blob squashed flat. Mmmm delicious!

Ok, so that got rid of a little over half, as well as the remains of our previous supply. So what about the rest. Well, just add three children with teaspoons, a couple of good walks and stir in the remainder, and by the border, hey presto, all gone.
