After a cooked brekkie on the remains on the fire it was time to break camp and head off on some more walks. This is quite a huge National Park and conservation area but most of it is undeveloped or off limits.
We walked into a spectacular gorge and at the end is the ampitheatre that features on many a postcard of the park. Once she had warmed up, Izzy (and at times, Louis) had a lot of fun seeing how far and how long her voice could carry for. An incredible acoustic with a very “live” sound. We then went out to Piccaninny Creek Lookout which was worth the slog along the dry creek bed. We were again rewarded by some sightings of birds we hadn’t previously seen.
It was then time to start the long, slow drive back to the Highway. Donnie and I had decided to cut out the trip to Wolfe creek crater. Not really on our way and a lot of dirt (500+km). Louis was philosophical about it. Initially we thought to go back North and up to Wyndham but reading a little more decided back to Kunannarra might get us a better chance of an oil change for the car tomorrow. I still hope to visit Wyndham on the (circuitous) way to El Questro and the start of the Gibb River Road. I am reminded we are one quarter through our trip. It seems we have been away no time at all and yet the variety and volume of experiences so far tells me otherwise. We will need a break when we get back if we keep up this pace!

p.s. Hello 1S
YAH! To fantastic Elliot and all the family,
ReplyDeleteYOU CHAMPION...HERBERT! I put your blog and photo up on the Interactive White Board. The class went crazy and cheered with excitement! We were so loud that 1B came in to see what was going on. Let me just say I think they were a LITTLE jealous. There were a couple of questions from the class for you Elliot. Were the ranges really high? Did you leave the HELLO 1S for other people to see? Are you collecting anything to bring back? I suggested to the class that there probably wasn't enough room in the car for rocks etc. Our class and year 3 (Ms Moore) are painting 's' block on Wednesdays. We have started on the wall that faces the under cover eating area. It's a bit like colour by number and groups of four go down for a twenty minute paint. In class we are germinating seeds and observing and recording how they grow. Keep having fun and enjoy your BIG outdoor classroom.
Cheers from Mrs.Smith and 1S.
